Symplectic transformations

A symplectic transformation is a mapping of phase-space

where M is

J is

and E is the 3N dimensional unit matrix.

The symplectic transformations are exactly those transformations of phasespace which transforms a Hamiltonian equation of motion in the original phase-space into a Hamiltonian equation of motion in the transformed phase-space.
