Astronomy Chairs Home Page

This the home page for dissemination of information to Chairs (and other senior members) of US University Astronomy Departments. The principal regular event is the biennial meeting of Astronomy Department Chairs that is facilitated by the American Astronomical Society. It is an all-day event.

For examples of assessments of degree programs, curricula, etc. see plans, which were collected by Neal Evans of University of Texas after the 2008 meeting.

Past meetings

The ninth AAS Astronomy Chairs Meeting was held on Saturday November 1, 2014 at the Chicago O'Hare Hilton.

The eighth AAS Astronomy Chairs Meeting was held on Saturday November 3, 2012 at the Chicago O'Hare Hilton.

The seventh AAS Astronomy Chairs Meeting, held at the Chicago O'Hare Hilton November 6, 2010, and summary notes, kindly provided by John Hawley (meeting Chair).

Details of the sixth (1 November, 2008) and fifth (4 November, 2006) meetings, both also held at at the Chicago O'Hare Hilton, are still available, together with some material from the 2004, 2002, and 2000 meetings.
