Title: Probe black hole interior with an infalling observer by modular flow

Abstract: In this talk, I will first review the proposal by Daniel Jafferis and Lampros Lamprou about the reconstruction of a bulk infalling observer in terms of modular flow (see 2009.04476), and then apply this proposal to SYK model in thermofield double state to probe the future wedge behind horizon (see 2111.14010). The idea is to regard the bulk observer as a subsystem in the ambient spacetime and replace it by a small size black hole for conceptual and computational simplicity. Entangling this small size black hole with a reference system gives a way to characterize the internal degrees of freedom of the observer. The proposal for the probe by this bulk infalling observer is that the modular flow between the system and the reference is associated with the proper time along the geodesic of the observer. I will also mention some work in progress to apply this proposal to other problems behind black hole horizon if time permits.
