Other Facilities

Astronomers at Rutgers make use of many different astronomical facilities. These include the Hubble Space Telescope, which is operated for NASA by AURA, the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy. Rutgers is a member of AURA, which also operates NOAO, the National Optical Astronomy Observatories. NOAO facilities which are routinely used by Rutgers astronomers include the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (), Kitt Peak National Observatory (KPNO), and the twin 8m Gemini telescopes: one on Mauna Kea in Hawaii and one on Cerro Pachon in Chile.

Rutgers is currently building a Fabry-Perot spectrometer which will be used on the Gemini South telescope, as well as on the Southern Astrophysical Research () telescope. The astronomy group at Rutgers are frequent users of various X-ray observatories including the Chandra X-ray Observatory and, eventually, the Constellation-X mission. Rutgers astronomers interested in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) will be involved in the analysis and interpretation of data from the next generation instrument: Atacama Cosmology Telescope.
