IMPORTANT DATE CONCERNING WIND TURBINES
APRIL 22, 7:00 at PRATTSBURGH HIGH SCHOOL is the
Scoping Meeting when the public is supposed to speak about what environmental
issues need to be studied regarding wind turbines. It is best to have something in writing that can be given to the
lead agent either at the meeting or through the mail.
WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO?
BIRD INFO: We need information regarding sighting
of endangered species, including animals and birds. All you bird watchers – what birds have you seen? Do you see
migrating birds at your land? Owls?
Eagles? Please make a list and
send it to Nancy Wahlstrom at 11327 Symonds Road, Prattsburgh, NY 14873.
WRITE LETTERS to SCIDA, the lead agent for Ecogen
in the SEQR process. The address is Board of Directors, SCIDA, P.O.B. 393, 7234
Rte 54 North, Bath New York 14810-0393.
TELL SCIDA HOW YOU USE YOUR LAND AND HOW THE TURBINES WOULD IMPACT ON
THAT USE.
Your letter should discuss any ENVIRONMENTAL
PROBLEMS that could be caused by the wind turbines. The list of problems would include but is not limited
to noise, disturbance of wells, ice throw,
blade throw, noise pollution, light pollution and disruption of a tourist
business. Ideally your letter should
state a potential problem and how that problem should be studied.
For example if you
are concerned about noise, you need to ask SCIDA to study the problems
associated with the constant noise from the wind turbines.
If you are worried
about the animals, you must state potential problems the turbines would cause
for deer and other wildlife.
Especially important are letters asking for studies to determine how the turbines will change the character of the community.
YOUR LETTERS ARE VITAL TO THE PROCESS.
