Office hour: Fridays, 3-4 pm, Serin E 270.

Lectures:   Monday and Wednesday, 1.40 – 3 pm, ARC-110.  It is strongly recommended to read the material before class. This way you will benefit from lectures most. Ask questions about something you do not understand. Ask questions during lectures, office hours and after the class.

Textbook:  "Principles of quantum mechanics"  by R. Shankar,  2nd ed., New York : Plenum Press, c1994.  This book seems the best choice for our class - it is self-contained, detailed, and accessible. It also covers most of the material we will study in the first semester. There are plenty of other excellent books on quantum mechanics. You might find the discussion of some topics in these books very helpful. I suggest that you browse through all of them to have an idea about other resources available to you.

Syllabus: In the first semester I plan to cover Shankar Chapters 1-7, 9-15 and (time permitting) Chapter 17. Take a look at a detailed list of topics we will cover.

Homeworks: There will be a homework assignment each 1-1.5 weeks. It will be graded and returned to you.

Homework Grader:  Prof. Claud Lovelace

Grades:  40 % final, 30% midterm, 30% homework. In borderline cases other factors, such as class participation will be taken into account.
