Introduction
This is the course website for Physics 417, Intermediate Quantum Mechanics, for the Fall 2013 Semester.
There are prerequisites for this course:
  • An introductory Quantum Mechanics course (such as Physics 361).
  • Familiarity with differential equations, complex numbers, vector algebra.
  • Some familiarity with classical mechanics and electrodynamics concepts.

    Lecture: MW 1:40 - 3:00 PM in SEC-218

    Office Hours: Tuesdays 11-12 AM or by appointment

    Textbook:
    The primary textbook will be: Griffiths "Introduction to Quantum Mechanics, 2nd edition".
    At times the course may also draw from the following supplementary textbooks: Liboff "Introductory Quantum Mechanics" and Sakurai "Modern Quantum Mechanics".

    Grading
    Here is how the grading breaks down:
  • Homeworks: 20%
  • Midterm Exam: 30%
  • Final Exam: 50%

    Homeworks
    The first homework will be posted here on 9/11/13. All homeworks are due one week after they are assigned.

    Exams
    There will be a midterm exam and a final exam. Please let me know as soon as possible if you cannot make either the midterm or final exam.
    The midterm exam will be in class, for the full lecture period. I will post a previous year's exam for practice when the time comes.
    Both the midterm and the final will be open-book format.
