Dyon Loops and Abelian Instantons

Monopoles, and their electrically charged generalization, dyons, provide a window into nonperturbative aspects of quantum field theory with possible phenomenological implications. In this talk, I will discuss recent progress in understanding the relation between Euclidean dyon loops and Abelian instantons. In particular, I will show that dyon loops carry nonzero Abelian instanton number and can serve as infrared realizations of UV instantons, connecting them to familiar objects such as the BPST instanton of Yang-Mills theory. I will also discuss how dyon loops illuminate the connection between Abelian ABJ anomalies, generalized symmetries, and potential physical effects in axion physics and beyond.
