Scanning a Cover Page with Answers Along the Short Edge, Version 2

Check first that the scanning is set to black-and-white, single-sided, resolution 300 dpi, and 30-50% brightness. Make sure the Input Page Size and the Onput Page Size are set to to Letter, and Orientation is set to Same as Original Set the paper guides to 11 inches

For each group,

Feed into the scanner face up, with the answer form away from you, so that the cut-off corner enters last. The side rails should be not quite tight, but close, to keep the forms well aligned.
scan and send to your email.

Then when back on your computer,

Save the emails in the directory in which you will do the grading, with names in a sequence such as scanN.pdf. Keep the number of characters in N constant (so you might start with scan01.pdf if you have more than 9 batches).
For each emailed file scanN.pdf, execute
gs -sDEVICE=pbmraw -r300 -o scanN%03d.pbm scanN.pdf
[Note: this will work on physlinux2 and other linux machines (shell), but not on the Suns. ]

At this point, you will have a file scanxyyy.pbm for each student, where x is whatever replaced N. Now execute

ls scan*.pbm > inputlist
flipitcw
This will create files scanxyyyflip.pbm for each student, which are rotated so that the answer form on the right.
ls scan*flip.pbm > inputlist
[ inputlist has the names of the files which will be read for grading. If you want to check, look at one with gthumb `head -1 inputlist`, and make sure the answers are on the right side of the page. [Note those are accent graves, not apostrophies]. If this is not correct, remove any flipped files ( rm *flip*.pbm, remake inputlist with ls scan*.pbm > inputlist, and then if necessary execute the the two commands for flipitcw above, but with cw replaced by 180 or ccw, to rotate by 180 degrees or counterclockwise.]
