Deciphering the Book of Life Michael Zhang Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Accelerated by the Human Genome Project, accumulation of genetic data (DNA sequences) has reached unprecedented speed. To understand the structure and the function of those genomes, computational biologists are working closely with experimental bench-scientists in developing new analysis methods. I will take a brief journey through three major areas (gene-finding, sequence comparisons and gene regulation networks) of computational genomics and try to introduce some basic methodologies while posing some challenging problems along the way.
