The Color Glass Condensate and eRHIC

At very high energies, the gluon content of hadrons becomes large. When this happens, the color gluons Bose condense inside the hadron. Due to the very high energies, the natural time scales for the evolution of this condensate are Lorentz time dilated. This matter has properties similar to a glass: A disordered system which behaves like a solid on short time scales but a liquid on longer ones. This matter is probably universal and controls the gross properties of strong interactions at high energy. Such matter might be studied in high energy electron heavy ion colliders, such as the eRHIC machine being discussed at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
