Rutgers Department of Physics and Astronomy Colloquium - Physics Lecture Hall Wednesday, September 16, 1998, 4:30 PM Towards the Chiral limit of QCD using Lattice Gauge Theory Norman Christ Columbia University Fundamental theoretical developments, coupled with major advances in computer resources now allow the numerical simulation of Quantum Chromodynamics with accurate representation of the near chiral symmetry resulting from the very light up and down quark masses in Nature. This solution to the doubling problem in QCD extends the reach of numerical methods for the study of both the properties of the low-lying hadrons and the QCD phase transition. In this talk, these new methods will be described and exploratory numerical results presented.
