The Density Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG) method introduced almost a decade ago has by now become the tool of choice in the numerical study of one dimensional lattice models. We plan to review the basics of the original method and its subsequent extension to study dynamical properties. Emphasis will be on the methodology with a few applications.
