Condensed Matter Forum of Rutgers University

History & current status

Note added by masud [masud@physics], Fall 2002

The cmforum activities described below concerns talks arranged and given in summer and fall, 2001. The website work at that time was done by Mathew Francis, mfrancis@physics. Other than me and Mathew, other people involved in organizing the talks were Nayana Shah, Carlos Bolech, S Kancharla (Venky), and Rossen Roussev.

The forum didn't run in spring 2002 because we got busy with other things, and also ran out of people willing to talk.

I hope to organize another season of the CondMat Forum during spring 2003, hopefully my last semester at Rutgers. Many of the people who participated in the 2001 cmforum have left Rutgers, and there are some new condmat students and postdocs; so this might be an appropriate time to continue the tradition.

An earlier incarnation of the condmatforum ran in fall 1998, organized by Venky and Carlos. I wasn't involved with the effort at that time.

Who We Are

The Condensed Matter Forum is an informal seminar for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers who are interested in (or merely curious about) condensed matter physics. Our meetings are intended to be an environment where graduate students and postdocs can give presentations (on their research, or on other topics of interest), and ask the kinds of questions that cannot be asked during regular seminars or colloquia. These discussions are held in the Condensed Matter Reading Room (Room E287 of Serin Physics Laboratory).
