The USA under the attack of terrorists

The United States face the most serious terrorist attack in its history. Key buildings in New York and Washington were attacked by three airplanes. In New York, two machines hit both towers of the World Trade Center. Part of one of them collapsed. In Washington, the third airplane fell near Pentagon. There is fire in the building. American authorities evacuate the White House, Pentagon, State Treasury and Congress. The airports are closed all over the States.
The first machine hitted the 110-floor skyscraper in lower Manhattan in 8:45 a.m. Eastern time. The upper part of the building exploded several times. Eighteen minutes later, the second airplane crashed to the other tower. CNN was already broadcasting this live. About 9:30 another airplane felll near Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

First news talk about hundreds of injured. In the towers over 40 thousand people were working. Over 150 thousand people visited the center every day because it is a popular target of tourists.

Both towers collapsed later. The high towers were damaged seriously. A dense smoke and smoke was coming from them.

FBI started investigations. According to G.W.Bush it is clearly a terroristic attack. "We will find who is responsible for that." Bush is going from Florida to New York.

Democratic front for liberation of Palestina (which does not respect Jasir Arafat) said it was responsible for the attacks. However it took this statement back immediately.

The airplanes that crashed into the World Trade Center were hijacked from Boston, according to the most recent new. Both were Boeing 767 which has capacity of 200 people.

The authorities started the evacuation of the White House, Pentagon, State Treasury and the Congress. In New York state, all flights were cancelled. All the airports in the States are closed and the airplanes are being redirected to Canada.

Wittnesses say that the traffic including the subway is stopped in Manhattan. Trafic jams are everywhere. The streets are full of cars and people.

The first attack against the World Trade Center was Feb 26, 1993. The explosion killed 6 people and injured over 1000; the damages were estimated to 300 million dollars. In 1945, an American millitary two-motor bombarder B-25 crashed into the 79th floor of the Empire State Building.

The World Trade Center - some data

The World Trade Center constituted of 7 buildings in lower Manhattan. It was the biggest commercial center in the world. There were headquarters of many American and international companies and goverment agencies. The most dominant were two 110-floor towers, 415 or 417 meters high, respectively. The building designed by Minora Yamasaki and Emera Roth was finished in 1973 and the total cost was 750 million dollars.

Everyone tries to call somewhere, say that he/she is OK. Cars are in streets, people buy doughnuts and coffee. 40 streets from the disaster the life is almost as usual. All the computers open news webpages. CNN and radio interrupted their broadcasts and they air things about the attack only. The stock market was lucky because it had not started yet. Nothing happens now but we will have to find out how to get home," Mirek Tvaruzek wrote from Manhattan.
