Speaker: Tal Korem Columbia University New York, NY Title: The microbiome, metabolome, and host health Abstract: The gut microbiome has been associated with a large number of complex and chronic diseases. Our understanding of the underlying mechanisms, and the translation to the clinic, however, is slow and difficult. I will present two recent projects: In the first, we developed a method that uses sequencing coverage analysis to analyze genomic variability in the microbiome, yielding mechanistic insights about host-microbiome interactions. In the second, we developed predictive models of the human serum metabolome, uncovering multiple interactions between the host, its microbiome, and metabolome. Overall, these studies demonstrate how high resolution multi-omic analysis can drive us closer to mechanisms, and eventually to clinical translations.
