RXF Calibration System Using a HPD.


HiRes experimet uses a Roving Xenon Flasher (RXF) as a standerd light source for the in situ calibration of photo multiplier tubes (PMT). I developed a procedure to measure the absolute light output of the RXF using a hybrid photo diode (HPD). The absolute efficiency of the HPD was first calibrated with respect to a NIST calibrated silion sensor by a photon counting method. Which was then used to measure the light outout of the RXF. I designed and built all hardware and developed the experimental and the analysis procedure to calibrate HPD and the RXF. HPD was calibrated to within a 5% accuracy and RXF btter than 7%.
