This was my first HEP hardware project, done with my NuTev advisor Prof. Randy Johnson when I was a graduate student working on the detector upgrade. I built this test set up for testing the scintillator oil used in the upgrade. The attenuation length and the light output from a sample of oil from each oil drum was measured. Inside the dark box, a 8' long 4"x4" plxei-glass tube contained the oil under testing. Scintillator light from cosmic rays were collected by two photo tubes at each end. Five scinillator hodoscopes were along the tube gave the position information. System was read by a CAMAC DAQ (Randy built) to a PC. Data in the form of ASCII files were transfered to a Unix computer and analysis was done in PAW. I tested all scintillator oil used in the detector upgrade using this test setup. I also built another test setup to map the light output of few NuTev scintillator counters using cosmic rays.
