Pictures from Thailand, Part 1:
Bangkok: Temples and Palaces

Click on the pictures, as usual

First, the most common sight, smell, and sound in Bangkok -- and the unavoidable mode of transportation sometime in Thailand -- the "tuk-tuk." (Think "tuk-tuk-tuk-tuk-tuk-tuk...")
A rooftop in the "Marble Temple," a monestary containing the ashes of King Rama V.
The next few pictures are in and around the Grand Palace. This is as you first enter the palace grounds, looking toward the wall of the palace monestary.
The outside of one of the Wat (temple) buildings. I'll remember what the king did in here once I dig out the guidebook.
Pillars, towers, and shrines are everywhere throughout the palace grounds. A common archetectural feature seems to be creatures supporting the structure.
The view a bit further back, showing the brightly colored tile rooftops.
And with that, it was time to catch the train north to Chiang Mai for a couple of days. This is actually from the train heading south, on the way to the islands.
