Grader: Jean Walker, e-mail: jpwalker "at" physics.rutgers.edu
Textbook: The Physics of Stars, by A.C. Phillips (required) available from the bookstore
Books on Reserve (in the Physics Library, which is on the Allison Road side of the Physics and Astronomy Building):
Overview: Observed properties of stars. Internal structure of stars, energy generation and transport. Polytropes. White dwarfs. Post main sequence evolution.
Format: The course consists of 2 lectures each week on Tuesday and Friday from 10:20AM to 11:40AM in room 107 of the Allison Road Classroon Building (ARC), Busch Campus.
Homework Policy: Weekly homework (H/W) assignments will be posted on the Web. H/W is due by 4:30PM, Friday, of the week indicated. NO LATE HOMEWORKS WILL BE ACCEPTED - NO EXCEPTIONS. There will be midterm and final exams. The graduate students in the course will present lectures near the end of the semester on a topic in stellar physics not covered in class. From time to time there will be an extra H/W problem for the grad students.
Announcements: Special announcements will be posted on the web. The home page for the course is http://www.physics.rutgers.edu/ugrad/441/
