(1) Both technology and mathematics play an important role in the
    advancement of science.  Refer back to the chapters on "Physics"
    and "Astronomy" that we read earlier this semester and write about
    two scientific advances: one that was made possible by the
    development of a new technology and another (different) one made
    possible by the development of new, or creative use of existing,
    mathematical techniques.  In your essay compare the historical
    advance to scientific advances that you know about in the modern
    era.

(2) Write an essay on "Atomic Peace or War" (p. 118) in "Ideas and
    Opinions."
