Physics 227 - Analytical Physics IIA

Electricity and Magnetism
 Fall, 2007

Note: Expect small changes throughout the semester.

Syllabus

September
October
November
December

Textbook
The assigned reading is from our textbook:
Young and Freedman: University Physics, Volume 2, 12th Edition, Pearson/Addison Wesley, San Francisco, 2007

(If you are continuing onto Physics 228, then you may consider buying the combination of Volume 2 and Volume 3 together.  Although bulkier, it will be cheaper).

Please complete the assigned reading before each lecture, and be sure to bring your iclicker  transmitter with you to lecture. You will be quizzed on the reading at the beginning of each lecture, and you will be asked to participate interactively throughout the lecture with the iclicker. Please register your iclicker using the link above.

There are WWW-based homework assignments throughout the semester using Mastering Physics.  The Mastering Physics course ID for Fall 2007 is RABEFALL07

  • For the first week and a half of classes, Sept. 6-13th only, there will be two assignments.  The first is to familiarize you with Mastering Physics, and we encourage you to do this well in advance of the deadline, so that you are sure you are familiar with the procedure for entering formulae. Both are due at 10 PM on Mon, Sept. 17th.
  • After that, there will be just one set of problems each week, due at 10 PM on Monday, though we encourage you to do them before the weekend.
The problems will be graded by Mastering Physics, which rigidly enforces the deadlines for completion.

Schedule

  • Tuesday recitation sections start on Sept. 11th.
  • Wednesday recitation sections start on Sept. 12th.

In the first column "L" = Lecture, "R" = Recitation, "E" = Exam, "N" = No class, "V" = Review, and  "TBA" = "To Be Announced."
