World Music:

Indian Music and Dance

Adam Cunha & David Freeman

Fall 2000

Professor Nanette de Jong

The following pages are a brief introduction to the many aspects of Indian music and dance.  Adam explores classical Indian dance, while David looks at the way in which classical Indian music influences the music of  musicians today.   This site is the product of the study of World Music.  Indian culture is very promenent in New Jersey and is felt throughout the world.  This site is a description of our search for Indian dance and music within our community.

The first step taken is to choose art form of interest, in our case, Indian music and Classical Indian dance.  Once this is established we searched for people who participate in these art forms.  We then choose one person, our "culture bearer", to help us further understand and experience the culture.   This enables us to look at the culture from a first person perspective. In addition, we researched our respective subjects and listened to the music.
