Assignment 3 (due 10/10/2011):

Fowles problems 2.14, 2.15, 2.16, 2.17, 2.19, 2.20, 2.22, 2.23

Clarifications:

Problems 2.14, 2.15, 2.16: All three problems refer to water/air and diamond/air interfaces, not a diamond/water interface. Problem 2.16 refers to external reflection.

Problem 2.19: Note that the first part of the question is about the “amplitude”, while the second part is about the “intensity”! You remember, of course, how intensity is related to amplitude, don’t you?

Problem 2.23: Replace “Brewster window” with “Brewster interface” (i.e., a single interface).

Solutions 2.14, 1.15, 2.17 and 2.20 (disregard 2.19)

Solution 2.19

Solutions 2.16 and 2.23
