Monday 6 February 2017: Topics to be covered in the lecture (HRW sections 17.7, Chapter 21)

1. Before class, you need to grasp the basics of the Doppler effect for the two simple cases: (1) detector moving, source stationary, and (2) source moving, detector stationary. Go through the very good short presentation at http://www.cabrillo.edu/~jmccullough/Applets/Flash/Fluids,%20Oscillations%20and%20Waves/DopplerEffect.swf.
Do quizlet questions 1 and 2.

2. To prepare for the discussion of Coulomb's law, you need to review the law of gravity:  the inverse square dependence (HRW 13.1), superposition (13.2) and vector addition of forces, and the shell theorems (outside (13.4) and outside (13.4)).
