1. As we discussed in lecture on Monday, from a real-valued
function f(x,y,z), one can obtain a
conservative vector field by differentiating f: at each point in
space, the x component of the vector field is minus the partial
derivative of f with respect to x, the y component of the vector
field is minus the partial derivative of f with respect to y and
the z component of the vector field is minus the partial
derivative of f with respect to z.
