I have selected a well-written text, as described below. I am asking you to
read the assigned chapters and sections each week. Pay special attention
to the end-of-chapter problems. If you need more practice than the
homework assignment provides, work similar problems. Study the
solutions in your text of typical problems. Understand and use the
problem solution techniques provided in the text. This is a
non-calculus text. Feel free to use calculus where appropriate for
problem solving and the related theory. Reading the text will provide
you with a much more complete and fine-tuned understanding of physics
than I have time to present in the lectures and you will have in your
notes.

University Bookstore (Ferren Mall). The text book is
available in four versions:
- Full Text (ISBN: 0-471-66315-8) includes Chapters 1-32;
this version contains all of the material
for this course as well as Physics 203.
But this ISBN number does not include WebAssign
registration.
- Volume I (ISBN: 0-471-66316-6) which includes Chapters 1-17;
this contains only material for Physics 203 and is
not used for Physics 204. This ISBN number also does
not include WebAssign.
- Volume II
(ISBN: 0-471-66324-7) which includes Chapters 18-32;
these are exactly the chapters used in this course, 204. Again,
This ISBN number does not include WebAssign.
There is also an online version, available through
the WebAssign site.
This contains all of the material in the textbook and includes a
WebAssign code.
When you buy the textbook, make sure that it includes a
WebAssign code (which should be in a small cardboard packet),
especially if you do not buy it from the sources listed
here.
