Mottness and Strong Coupling

I review the determination of a low energy theory of the Hubbard
model, which models materials that exhibit superconductivity with high
critical temperatures. One of the key features of this theory is the
emergence of a collective degree of freedom that gives rise to many of
the exotic phenomena associated with these materials.
