International Workshop on High-Resolution Depth Profiling
Bar Harbor, Maine, May 23 - 26, 2005

        Transportation

If you would like us to arrange your transportation from Bangor to Bar Harbor: We will try to arrange car-pooling, or more specifically, shared taxis, from the airport in Bangor to the hotel. If you are interested in this, please let me know BY MAY 13 when you will arrive at Bangor (airline, flight number and scheduled arrival time). You may have to wait some time in Bangor for your taxi-mates to arrive and we hope this is agreeable. We expect the cost of a shared taxi to be ~$20/person, one way. Most probably, we will have to prepay the taxi and you can pay us at the conference.

The closest major airport to Bar Harbor is Bangor, Maine (BGR) (http://www.flybangor.com/) , with non-stop flights from Boston (Delta, American, Midwest Express), New York City LaGuardia (American), Philadelphia (USAirways), Cincinnati (Delta), Detroit (Northwest), Minneapolis (Northwest) and Albany (Continental). All the major car rental companies are available at the airport.

USAirways flies commuter planes non-stop from Boston to the (small) Bar Harbor airport (BHB) three times a day.

It is also possible to fly to Boston and use ground transportation from there. Concord Trailways (http://www.concordtrailways.com/concord_trailways.htm) provides coach service from Boston's Logan International Airport to Bangor. The travel time from Boston is approx. 5 hours and the cost is $65 round trip. If driving on your own from Boston, we recommend the slow and scenic route along the coast. Driving I-95 is faster but less interesting.

In recent years it has become increasingly difficult and time consuming for visitors to get a  VISA  to enter the US. If you are from a country from which a visa is required to enter the US, we urge you to start the process to obtain your visa as soon as possible. We will be very happy to supply you with a letter of invitation or any other documents that you may need, but there are definite limits on what we can do. We aplogize for this tedious procedure and wish things were simpler.
