The Robert A. Schommer Prize honors former Rutgers astronomer Prof. Robert A. Schommer, who was committed to excellence in astronomical research, including in his studies of stellar populations and his co-discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe through observations of supernovae, as well as to the development of research and graduate study in astrophysics at Rutgers. The Prize shall be awarded to the one student who, in the collective judgment of the astrophysics faculty in the Department, has published the best refereed journal article in the field of astrophysics (broadly construed).
The Robert A. Schommer Prize will be awarded for the first time in May, 2015.
