The ODE/IM correspondence

There exists a remarkable correspondence between  a certain class of Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE) and quantum Integrable Models (IM). In this colloquium I will illustrate this relation using two textbook problems -- the 3D anharmonic  quantum-mechanical oscillator and the 1D Heisenberg spin chain.
