TWO POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS at Uppsala University, Sweden
------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------

Two postdoctoral positions are available in the Theoretical Magnetism
Group, Department of Physics, Uppsala University, Sweden.
The postdoctoral positions are both for a period of two years.

Description of the research areas:

Position 1.
Research will be conducted on various properties of actinide materials,
primarily on the basis of ab initio Density-Functional Theory
calculations. The studied topics are:
atomistic simulations of nuclear fuel materials, including the effects
of defects, vacancies and their diffusion; Ab initio calculations of
X-ray scattering off actinide materials; Study of the influence of
oxidation on actinide materials.

Position 2.
The research focusses on electronic structure calculations of bio-
materials. To be investigated are novel functional properties of large
bio-molecules, applying ab initio Density Functional Theory-based
techniques. Theoretical modeling of optical, magnetic, and transport
properties will be performed.

Prospective candidates are expected to hold a PhD and have an excellent
background in theoretical or computational physics or chemistry.
Experience with large scale ab initio calculations is desirable, as is
also the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment.

At the Physics Department of Uppsala University a strong research
environment exists in computational material science and condensed
matter theory, which provides an excellent scientific working place for
scientists.

Qualified candidates are invited to send a CV, list of publications, and
names of two reference persons, to the address given below (deadline
April 1, 2007).

Olle Eriksson and Peter Oppeneer,
Department of Physics,
Uppsala University, Box 530
