January 2007.

Postdoctoral & graduate student positions in Computational Material Science
(Duke University)

Depending on funding availability we will hire up to 2 new graduate students
and 1-2 postdocs in the areas of (a) phase stability of nanocarbides and (b)
alloy theory of metals and superconductors.
The periods start from Fall 2007 (graduate students) and May-June 2007 (for
postdocs, negotiable).
Requirements:
1) Graduate student applicants are preferred to have background in quantum
mechanics, solid-state-physics and thermodynamics.
2) Postdoctoral candidates must have documented experience in ab initio quantum
calculations, thermodynamic and electronic band structures characterization.
As a simple rule of thumb, all the candidates should feel comfortable with the
research described in articles 34,33,29,27,24,21,13 presented at the URL:
http://alpha.mems.duke.edu/publications.html .
Postdoctoral applicants should send an email to stefano-at-duke.edu with the
subject "POSTDOCTORAL SEARCH" containing a complete curriculum vitae in PDF
(education, publications list, conference talks, etc.) and the names of at
least two references (please no DOC files!)
To speed up the process, graduate student applicants might email me their
curriculum (education, publications, GPA, courses, GRE, TOEFL, interests) in
addition to the official application to the university.

Thanks,

Prof. Stefano Curtarolo

Sincerely,
Stefano Curtarolo
