Postdoctoral fellowship on “Ab-initio rheology of the earth’s mantle” in
Trieste, Italy

A postodoctoral fellowship supported by the National Simulation Center
CNR-INFM “Democritos”, Trieste, Italy, is available immediately to carry
out research on the ab-initio and classical simulation of rheological
processes in mantle minerals, in the framework of the ESF/Eurocores
initiative “EuroMinSci”, and in collaboration with institutions in
London, Montpellier, Lille, and Bayreuth. The research will be carried
out in the group of Sandro Scandolo (ICTP, Trieste) and will focus on
understanding the microscopic aspects of dislocation dynamics in simple
oxides and silicates, at finite temperatures. Candidates are expected to
have a PhD degree in Physics, Earth Sciences, Chemistry, or related
disciplines, and to be familiar with atomistic simulation methods such
as molecular dynamics and/or ab-initio calculations. The deadline for
applications is November 6, 2006. Interviews will take place in Trieste
on Nov 10. The appointment is initially for one year, renewable for up
to a total of three years. For more information, please contact Sandro
Scandolo at scandolo-at-ictp.it .
