COMPUTATIONAL SURFACE SCIENCE

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position with 
Prof. Stampfl and Dr. Warschkow at the School of Physics at 
the University of Sydney, Australia. The research will 
involve the study of surfaces of, and reactions at, 
metal-oxide-based materials in relation to heterogeneous 
catalysis relevant to renewable energy production. It will 
also include development and application of ab initio based 
thermodynamic and statistical mechanical schemes for 
determining surface structures and reaction rates. The 
applicant must hold a recent Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, or 
materials science. Further requirements for this position 
are: (1) A good knowledge of electronic structure theory. 
(2) Experience with first-principles calculations such as 
Density Functional Theory. (3) Ability to communicate 
effectively with coworkers and collaborators. (4) 
Demonstrated ability to write high-quality manuscripts 
suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

The appointment will be at university payscale of “Level A, 
Step 6” and offers multiple opportunities for international 
collaborations. The position is full-time and fixed-term for 
two years with possible extension for a further year, 
subject to the completion of a satisfactory mandatory 
probation period of six months, commencing as soon as
