Job opening:

The Department of Physics at the Technical University of Denmark
is offering a technical staff position in the dual areas
of scientific software development and IT support. Applicants
should have a physics background at the PhD level and a
substantial experience in computer programming.

We are seeking a member of the software development team at the
Center for Atomic-scale Materials Design (CAMd). CAMd has
developed several scientific software packages for electronic
structure DFT calculations which constitute a basis for much of
the research at CAMd: A plane-wave pseudopotential code (Dacapo),
a grid-based PAW code (GPAW), and the Atomic Simulation Environment
(ASE), a unifying and highly flexible interface to a number of
scientific codes.

Also, the IT support team is seeking a member with an aptitude for
and interest in computer systems management. We operate a
sophisticated computer environment consisting of about 50 Linux
workstations and a dozen Linux servers, and a very large Linux
supercomputer cluster with 900+ CPUs. In addition, the department
has 200+ Windows PCs.

The IT support work encompasses Linux workstation and server management,
installation of scientific software packages, and central services such as
E-mail and Web. The Linux cluster presents a number of exciting challenges
in state-of-the-art computer technology. Subsidiary topics include general
networking and computer security.

The successful applicant will participate in the two teams, working with
the maintenance of Dacapo and further development of GPAW and ASE,
and with all aspects of IT support. An in-house training period will
be expected for getting acquainted with the technologies which
we employ. We expect you to be able to work independently and provide
high quality solutions, and that you will be service-minded towards
our user community.

The monthly Danish salary scale for this position will be in the range
from 24.300 DKK to 29.540 DKK (approx. 3257 to 3960 Euro), plus 17.1%
pension fund and including 6 weeks of paid vacation.

Further information: Prof. Jens K. Norskov, head of CAMd, E-mail
norskov-at-fysik.dtu.dk, or Dr. Ole H. Nielsen, IT team manager,
E-mail Ole.H.Nielsen-at-fysik.dtu.dk. Applications should be sent to
Dr. Ole H. Nielsen, Dept. of Physics, Technical University of Denmark,
Building 307, DK-2800 Kongens Lyngby, Denmark by November 7, 2006.
