The Materials = Science and=20 Technology Division (MSTD) of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (http://www.ornl.gov) announces an=20 opening for a theoretical-computational postdoctoral appointment for the = applications and development of advanced Quantum Many-Body = techniques. The postdoctoral research will = include=20 the calculation of optical properties of nanostructures with Quantum = Monte Carlo=20 (QMC) and Density Functional Theory. =20 Calculations will target materials properties that overlap = strongly with=20 experimental programs carried out in the MST division and in the Center = for=20 Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS). =20 The applicant should have a Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science,=20 Chemistry, or related field. = A=20 strong background in ab-initio electronic structure methods is highly=20 preferred. Depending on = the=20 candidate interest and skills, algorithmic and method development = activities are=20 possible. The applicant = is further=20 expected to be capable of conducting world-class research with the=20 exceptional supercomputers available in the ORNL National = Center for = Computational=20 Sciences and = must have=20 a demonstrated capability to communicate results in English by = publication in=20 peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific meetings. = Appointment is for a full-time one-year position, with = potential for=20 renewal, dependent on funding availability.
