Research Fellow (Simulation of X-ray scattering from plasmas)
            School of Mathematics and Physics
                      Ref: 06/W485A

As part of and EPSRC funded programme we are looking for a post-doctoral=20
research associate to help with the development of models of X-ray scatteri=
ng=20
from dense plasmas. This project runs in parallel with an experimental=20
programme. The successful candidate should have or be about to obtain a PhD=
=20
in a physics related area. Experience in computational modelling work in on=
e=20
or more of plasma physics, liquid metals or X-ray scattering would be an=20
advantage. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with=
=20
researchers in three Centres in the School of Mathematics and Physics:=20
Plasma Physics, Atomistic Simulation, and Theoretical and Computational=20
Physics. The project involves the analysis of structural and time-dependent=
=20
phenomena in many-body systems made of classical ions and quantum electrons=
,=20
both interacting with electromagnetic fields. This, in turn, requires the=
=20
application of state-of-the-art computational electronic structure and=20
statistical mechanical methods. 2 years duration (with further duration=20
dependent on subsequent funding).

Salary: =C2=A326,402 per annum

Closing date 4.00pm, Friday 25 August 2006
