Postdoctoral Research Associate
School of Chemistry
University of Southampton

Ref no: 05F0904

Salary: £23,457 per annum

Applications are invited for an MRC funded post-doctoral research
position to work in the group of Dr Chris-Kriton Skylaris in the School
of Chemistry. This project will involve the modelling of protein-protein
interactions using unique and recent developments for linear-scaling
first-principles quantum mechanical calculations as well as other
molecular simulation techniques such as molecular dynamics.

You will have a strong background in electronic structure methods,
preferably with experience in density functional calculations in
chemistry or condensed matter physics. You will also be aiming to expand
into the area of biomolecular modelling and molecular biology as the aim
of this project is to apply your knowledge of computational methods to
perform a very accurate study, at the atomic level, of structural,
dynamical and electronic effects in the interaction between two proteins
in a problem of key importance to cancer research.

This project is in collaboration with the group of Dr Guy Grant
(biomolecular modelling) at the Unilever Centre for Molecular
Informatics in Cambridge which you will visit frequently. The duration
of this project is for 12 months but we expect that further funding
might become available for extension of the post.

For informal enquiries about this position, please contact Dr
Chris-Kriton Skylaris (cks-at-soton.ac.uk) or Dr Guy Grant (ghg24-at-cam.ac.uk)

For an application form and further particulars
visit: www.jobs.soton.ac.uk, email: recruit-at-soton.ac.uk, tel: 023 8059
2750 (minicom: 023 8059 5955).

All applications should include curriculum vitae. Applicants should
also arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent to Richard
Feirn in Human Resources (email: rf2-at-soton.ac.uk, fax: 023 8059 5491,
post: Human Resources, University of Southampton, Highfield,
Southampton, SO17 1BJ).

Completed applications should be returned no later than 21 July
2006. Please quote reference number 05F0904 in all correspondence.
