RA position - Computational Modelling of Oxide Interfaces.

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research position at the Fundamental & Computational Sciences Directorate, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), in the area of computational materials science.

The project involves ab initio modelling of the atomic structures and electronic properties of the bulk, surfaces, and interfaces of complex oxides; characterisation of defects in these systems using advanced computational methods; investigation of the nature of excited states and mechanisms of charge trapping at the defects. The primary focus is on accurate modelling of materials for energy applications. The candidates are expected to have a strong background in materials science / computational physics / quantum chemistry or equivalent with expertise in density functional theory and electronic structure simulations and a proven record of collaborative research with experimentalists. Successful candidate will work in closely with an experimental materials science group at PNNL.

The period of employment is up to 3 years contingent on satisfactory performance. The salary is $52k per year or higher depending on the candidate's experience.

For further information please contact Dr. Scott A. Chambers (scott.chambers-at-pnnl.gov, +1 509 371 6517) and Dr. Peter V. Sushko (p.sushko-at-ucl.ac.uk, +44 20 7679 9936).

To apply, browse the list of current job openings at http://jobs.pnnl.gov/ and select the job ID 301412. The deadline for applications is March 02, 2012.<br />
