We wish to appoint a postdoctoral research assistant to join a project to establish an ab-initio electronic structure theory of
temperature, magnetic field, compositional dependence of magnetic and electronic properties of materials for magnetic refrigeration, magnetic
shape memory and spintronics applications. As part of a theory-experimental collaboration involving groups at Warwick, Ames Lab.
(USA), Imperial College and STFC Daresbury a materials modelling technique will be developed to aid the design and optimisation of
new magnetic refrigeration materials in particular.

The post is available for up to 3 years starting from May 2012 and is funded by the EPSRC (UK).

Candidates for the post will be expected to possess a solid background in density-functional theory and previous experience in first
principles calculations of bulk crystalline materials. An interest in developing computational code and adapting new techniques is
highly desirable. Applications from candidates with a background in magnetic materials are encouraged.

The successful candidate will lead the development and testing of ab-initio modelling of bulk intermetallic magnetocaloric materials
and contribute to the production of a robust, easy-to-use code for analysis of a wide range of magnetic materials with results
entered into a database. They will work closely with the Project Partners at Imperial College, Ames Lab. and STFC Daresbury.
The work will involve theoretical development, scientific programming and optimisation of high performance computing codes.
Applications will be made to rare earth/transition metal alloys and compounds.

The closing date for applications is Friday 9 March 2012 with interviews currently planned for the week beginning 26 March 2012.
