Ph.D and postdoctoral associate position are available at Rice University i=
n the broad area of atomistic, molecular and multiscale modeling of cement-=
based materials. The projects include carrying out bottom-up atomistic and =
microtexture predictive simulations. Computational techniques will be integ=
rated to approaches from statistical mechanics and physical chemistry to pr=
ovide quantitative predictions of properties of cementitious materials acro=
ss different time- and length-scales. The research will be carried out at R=
ice University=92s Laboratory for Multiscale Materials Modeling.

For the post-doctoral position, a Ph.D. in materials science, chemistry, ph=
ysics, engineering or a related field is required. The candidate should hav=
e well-developed computational skills, a strong
background and interest in materials modeling and simulation, preferably ex=
perience in the areas of ab-initio calculations, molecular dynamics and Mon=
te-Carlo atomistic simulations. Good
written and spoken communication skills are expected.

To apply, please send a CV, several representative publications, and contac=
t information of three references to rouzbeh-at-rice.edu. Evaluation of candid=
ates will begin immediately and will
continue until the position is filled. For any questions, please contact Dr=

About Rice University (www.rice.edu):
Rice University is located in Houston and is one of the leading teaching an=
d research universities of the United States. In materials research, Rice U=
niversity is a preeminent international institute
and a leader in nanoscience. Times Higher Education (THE), a UK publication=
for professionals in education and research, has mentioned Rice No. 1 in t=
he world in materials science research,
based on the number of citations per paper between 1999 and 2009. Rice is r=
anked the nation's 17th-best overall university by U.S. News & World Report=
.

About Houston:
Houston is the 4th largest city in US and is considered the energy capital =
of the world particularly because of its great investments in technology an=
d research in oil and natural gas, energyefficient
infrastructures, renewable energy sources, wind, and solar energy. Houston =
is a multicultural city with the second-largest concentration of arts and t=
heaters in the US.

About the Department:
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rice focuses on re=
search areas that involve collaborative efforts with professors and student=
s from numerous departments and
institutes across campus. This freedom to pursue a truly interdisciplinary =
research-based education in Civil and Environmental Engineering has benefit=
ed the graduate students and postdoctoral
associates intellectually and professionally. As the world embraces ever mo=
re complex technological approaches, the department stands ready to meet th=
e challenge of the future with a strong engineering base and interdisciplin=
ary exposure for the researchers of the future.<br />
