Post doctoral position=20
in computational modeling of iron nanoparticles

=09A two years post-doctoral position is available in the physical and chem=
ical modeling group of =91Laboratoire de Physique et Chimie des Nano-Objets=
=92 (LPCNO), Toulouse, France. The position is funded by the French Nationa=
l Research Agency (ANR), through the young scientist research program. The =
initial contract will be for one year with a possible renewal for a second =
year. The starting net salary will be around 1800 =80, possibly higher depe=
nding on working experience.
=09The LPCNO is a research laboratory jointly run by INSA, CNRS (French Nat=
ional Research Center) and the University of Toulouse. The main field of re=
search of the laboratory relies on the combination the physical, chemical a=
nd modeling aspects of metallic nano-particles in order to study/improve th=
eir magnetic, optic, electronic or catalytic properties.
=09The entitled project aims at studying, by means of ambitious density fun=
ctional theory calculations, the effects of several adsorbed species (H+, C=
l-, amines=85) on the structure and magnetic, catalytic properties of iron =
nanoparticles. More precisely, thanks to the use of slab models and small-s=
ize molecular nanoclusters, we propose to understand the nanoscopic effects=
of surface species on nanoparticle morphologies, and their magnetic proper=
ties. Additionally, in the Fischer-Tropsch reaction=92s context, we wish to=
investigate CO adsorption and decomposition and the following chemical eve=
nts that leads to the formation of hydrocarbon scaffolds.
=09The ideal candidate has a=A0Ph.D in chemical physics, physical chemistry=
, or materials science as well as a strong background and extensive working=
experience in first principles electronic structure calculations.=A0Progra=
mming experience, ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team =
and good communication skills are highly desirable.=A0Hence, the candidates=
must have motivation to interact with experimentalists. Interested applica=
nts should send their CV, list of publications, cover letter and three cont=
act references to Dr. Iann Gerber by e-mail (igerber-at-insa-toulouse.fr). Scr=
eening of the applicants starts middle December 2011 and will continue unti=
l the position is filled. Ideally the candidate should start in March 2012.
