An opportunity currently exists for a postdoctoral position at the Max-Planck-Institut for
Solid State Research in Stuttgart in the Max Planck Research Group group Theory of Semiconductor Nanostructures.
The group is addressing a variety of problems related to electronic and optical properties of nanostructures (see www.fkf.mpg.de/bester).

The current position is in the area of method development, where we are developing a new type of pseudopotential, "atomic effective pseudopotentials". The work consists of generalizing this approach to magnetic systems. On the other hand we need reinforcement for the code development of PLANC (our own code at the very last stage of development) where we are implementing a Wannier function basis set and are aiming at 100,000 atom calculations at DFT+ level. We also could benefit from someone with experience in optics (GW+BSE) as we are now connecting PLANC to our many-body codes. Obviously, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in the area that suits him/her best.

The position will be initially for 1 year renewable up to 3 years.

Deadline for application is the 24th of December.

Interested candidates should send an application letter, CV, list of publications and reference
contacts, preferably by email, to:

Dr. Gabriel Bester
Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research
Heisenbergstr. 1

The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and
especially encourages them to apply. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the
number of women in those areas, where they are underrepresented and therefore
explicitly encourages women to apply.
