We invite applications for multiple postdoctoral positions with Prof. Dane Morgan at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. The research is generally in the area of integrating atomistic and thermodynamic and kinetic modeling to understand and develop new materials. Areas of application include stabilizing novel multicomponent semiconductors, radiation induced precipitation in nuclear steels, and development of more stable Li-ion battery cathodes. A PhD in materials science, physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, or a related field is required. Familiarity with one or more of ab initio calculations, molecular simulations, and thermodynamic/kinetic modeling is preferred, but capable and enthusiastic applicants with any background will be considered. The research will develop broadly applicable skills and understanding and we encourage applications from those with a range of materials and modeling interests.

The appointments are initially for one year with possible extension. Interested applicants should send a CV in PDF format and contact information for 3 references to Leland Barnard at lmbarnard-at-wisc.edu. In your email please specify which areas of those listed above of are of most interest – compound semiconductors, steel precipitates, or Li-battery cathodes. Interest in more than one area is fine but please prioritize if you have a perference. Review of applicants will begin immediately and will continue until the positions are filled.

Computational Materials Group (CMG) (http://matmodel.engr.wisc.edu/): Dane Morgan’s group is integrated with the larger CMG, a joint effort of Izabela Szlufarska and Dane Morgan in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at UW Madison. We are a highly active group, with over 20 members and work in areas including nuclear materials, nanomechanics, nano-bio interfaces, fuel cells, batteries, semiconductors, and geophysics.
