Postdoctoral position in simulation of chemical hydrogen storage

The development and performance optimisation of devices for reversible hydrogen storage
is a key goal towards the realisation of the Hydrogen Economy, and is a significant challenge
for Mankind’s energy requirements in the 21st century. An 18-month postdoctoral position is now
available at UCD starting in January 2012, which will involve the application of quantum
molecular simulation techniques towards modelling chemical hydrogen storage in a variety of materials,
and feature extensive collaboration with a team of experimental researchers, as part of a larger SFI-funded research programme into solar energy and solar-based hydrogen production (http://www.seccluster.ie/).

The candidate must have good experience of Density Functional Theory methods and its application
towards determining reaction pathways and transition states. Experience of the Gaussian software package would be particularly desirable, although other software experience would also be desirable. Strong programming skills, experience of numerical analysis and familiarity with Unix-based operating systems are also required. Depending on progress, the project may also feature some classical and ab initio molecular dynamics simulation, but this aspect of experience in a candidate, although also desirable, is somewhat less important than strong evidence of explicit DFT skills for the modelling of chemical reactions.

Applications must be made online on the UCD Jobs Vacancy website: http://www.ucd.ie/hr/jobvacancies. Prior to application, further information (including application procedure) should be obtained from the website. The reference code for this vacancy is 004857. The deadline for application is 23:30 Sunday 6th November 2011. Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. UCD are unable to accept late applications. Note: All current recruitment which is taking place within UCD is dependent on non-Exchequer, external and self-funding sources of finance.

Informal enquiries may be directed to Dr. Niall English, with whom the successful applicant would be
working primarily:
