Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies and Department of Chemistry, University of Bath, UK

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research position in the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies at the University of Bath to work in the Materials Design group on the development and application of computational techniques for the optimisation and discovery of novel organic-inorganic compounds and interfaces. The project will involve molecular and solid-state simulations of the bulk, surface and defect properties of hybrid semiconducting materials, primarily based on Density Functional Theory. Close interaction with leading experimental groups (University of Cambridge and University of Alabama) will allow for rapid validation of predictions and the development of novel solar cell and LED architectures.

Successful candidates should already have a PhD in chemistry, physics or a related discipline, with a strong research record in theoretical or computational chemistry/physics, and an expertise of modelling either solid-state or molecular systems.

The project is part of a European Research Council starting grant for frontier research. The position will be for two-years initially, which may be extended upon mutual agreement. The post is of Research Grade 7: £29,972 to £35,788; the starting salary will be no higher than £31,798 (point 32).

The closing date for applications is Friday 25th November 2011, with an expected start date in Spring 2012. Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr. Aron Walsh (a.walsh-at-bath.ac.uk). Please ensure that your application is submitted through the University of Bath website, where a full job description can also be obtained.
