While not required, experience in molecular dynamics, computational thermodynamics, and Monte-Carlo methods could also be germane for this position. Also, U.S. citizenship or permanent residence status is highly desirable. =20 Successful candidates will join a broad research team focused on the fundamental mechanisms limiting the performance of high-temperature structural alloys. Current areas of interest include calculating fundamental parameters of liquid metals, simulating plastic deformation at the atomic, micron, and macroscopic scales using electronic structure, atomistic, dislocation dynamics, and crystal plasticity methods. Significant computational resources are available through the High Performance Computing Modernization Office to perform large scale calculations, analysis and visualization.
