Two postdocs are available in the Theory and Modeling Group of the Center for Nanoscale Materials at Argonne National Laboratory. Both positions will be supervised by Dr. Jeffrey Greeley and will be associated with multi-institutional energy research initiatives. The first such initiative will be focused on the development of computational methologies to model selective oxygen insertion and removal from complex alkanes and carbohydrates; the work, performed in close collaboration with experimental groups at Argonne, Northwestern University, UW-Madison, and Purdue University, will probe the properties of a variety of catalytic nanoarchitectures, ranging from metal nanoparticles to oxide-enclosed metal oxide clusters, for this important class of catalytic reactions, with the ultimate goal of identifying catalytic materials with enhanced activity and selectivity.

The second position will be focused on developing a comprehensive, molecular-scale understanding of the stability and growth of electrode-electrolyte interfaces in lithium-ion batteries. The broad objectives of the project will be to understand how secondary electrolyte interfaces form at these junctions and to explore the growth of alternative cathode structures (beyond carbon). The work will be performed in close collaboration with world-class experimental surface science and battery science groups at Argonne, Northwestern, and UIUC.

Both positions would be available as early as September. Interested candidates are invited to send a complete CV to Dr. Jeffrey Greeley (jgreeley-at-anl.gov).
