A postdoctoral position in first-principles simulations of magnetic bio-molecules is available at the Department of Physics and Materials Science, Uppsala University, Sweden

The research focuses on the ab initio calculation of electronic structure properties of large magnetic bio-molecules, both as free (gas phase) molecules and adsorbed on surfaces, aiming at understanding the magnetism of the bio-molecule and the chemical and magnetic molecule-surface interactions. To this end, density functional theory (DFT) based ab initio techniques as well as beyond DFT approaches will be applied. Functional properties as the optical and magneto-conductance will be investigated in relation to the molecule’s spin state and the molecule-surface interaction.

Uppsala University offers a very strong research environment within computational materials science. The research will be performed at the Ångström Laboratory, which provides an excellent scientific working place.

Required qualifications
The successful candidate is expected to hold a PhD and have an excellent background in computational materials physics or quantum chemistry. Experience with large-scale ab initio calculations is desirable, as is also experience with computer code development.

Appointment conditions
The postdoctoral position is initially for one year. The applicant should have obtained the PhD degree less than three years before the application dead line. Local guidelines for the salary class are applicable.

Your application
Qualified candidates are invited to send a CV, a short description of research interests and experiences, and list of publications to the address given below. Candidates are asked to provide names of reference persons or to include letters of recommendation.

You are welcome to submit your written application the latest on May 29, 2009, to the address:
